It's #GivingTuesday!
The first Tuesday after US Thanksgiving has become widely known as “Giving Tuesday.” What started as a small idea in 2012 is now one of the biggest fundraising days for nonprofit organizations during a season wherein people are usually uniting around dinner tables and spreading holiday cheer.
As you may be aware, The Doty Group has a longstanding history of volunteerism and community involvement, even to the extent that we were awarded a “Corporations for Communities” award by the Washington Secretary of State in 2018. We wanted to take this Giving Tuesday to share about some of the organizations we support and causes we care about. We would also be remiss not to remind you that there is also some incentive from The CARES Act for charitable giving in 2020.
Nourish Pierce County
Nourish Pierce County operates 23 active food bank distribution sites throughout the county. Every year, we host a food drive and have historically raised 700-1,000 lbs during that time for the food banks. Tacoma Rescue Mission
The Rescue Mission provides emergency services such as shelter and food to the homeless or hurting; offer self-sufficiency programs to help lift a person from poverty and break the chains of addiction; and support prevention programs. We usually serve an evening meal together as a team at the Rescue Mission, and this year we had a warm clothing and Christmas toy drive. Volunteer – Tacoma Rescue Mission (trm.org)
Arivva (Pierce Center for Arts & Technology)
Arivva seeks to transform lives in the Parkland area of Pierce County. With focus on education and workforce development, this change is facilitated through visual arts programs for high school youth and postsecondary career training for local workers. Northwest Spay & Neuter
NW Spay & Neuter was founded by people in the community who agreed that pets shouldn't have to spend their days hoping to be adopted in the shelter. Their mission is to spay and neuter dogs and cats to prevent overpopulation. Doty Group Audit & Assurance Director Linda Shupack sits on the Board of Directors as Treasurer. Prison Pet Partnership
Prison Pet Partnership takes in rescue dogs and purpose-bred puppies from other service dog organizations to train and place as service and therapy dogs. The program gives inmates the opportunity to learn valuable pet care vocational skills to use in finding employment when they resume their lives outside of prison. In addition to training, boarding, and grooming dogs, inmates also gain clerical skills by working in the office. Doty Group Tax Manager Lynnae Fritz is on the Board of Directors at PPP.
