Identity Theft Affidavit Now Available From IRS
The Internal Revenue Service has released Form 14039-B which is an affidavit for businesses, estates, trusts, and exempt organizations to report identity theft.
Common signs of identity theft include:
Inability to e-file a return because one was already filed with your EIN or SSN.
Receiving a rejection notice to a request for extension to file because a return is already on file.
Receiving a random tax transcript or IRS notice.
Missing IRS correspondence because of a change in address that you didn’t request.
The IRS never initiates contact with taxpayers by e-mail, text or social media to request financial information, and they do not call to threaten lawsuits or arrests.
More about identity theft can be found on the IRS website. The affidavit can be downloaded here.
